Please remember to always look at the calendar and Google Classroom for the latest homework assignments and due dates.
Book Reports Presentations start Monday. Every book report should have been "turned in". This is their largest and their final grade for the trimester.
November 5th Email to Parents
We have had a very fun week with finishing our Walter Mitty short story and starting our novella. For most classes, we will wrap up our Short Story Unit before Thanksgiving Break, while some will begin on the Persuasive Essay Unit and return to the Short Story Unit after November Break.
Weekly Updates:
Moving forward, I will be including only important information or major due dates in the weekly update, and use Homework Calendar and Google Classroom for more detailed information. Your student can always look in both places for information but Google Classroom will have the most details.
Homework
Students will now have around 10 to 15 minutes of homework Monday to Thursday night. They can work on this during advisory or at home. The homework calendar will be separated by period from now on as each class has different goals and assignments for some Curriculum Unit.
What to expect in the next few weeks
Period One, Four, and Six:
We are ending our Short Story Unit with the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Each student received their own copy. Students who misplace this book will be responsible for getting a new one (a pdf is provided to them in Google Classroom).I am reading several chapters in class with them to show them how to annotate books and projecting how to annotate as we go. They will have the opportunity to annotate at home starting next week. Grades for this unit will be from annotations, quizzes, 1 -2 projects, vocabulary assignments, one in class activity, and a final test.
Period Three:
We are beginning our Persuasive Writing Unit. We will be working on skills to build our opinions and arguments and work toward a Persuasive Essay that will be due the Tuesday after Thanksgiving Break (November 30th)
Assignments (and missing)
Fiction Book Reports are due TODAY (FRIDAY NOV 5th) I did a check over break and made comments where needed. Please take a look with your student as this is a heavily weighted grade. Book Report presentations start Monday the 8th and students will know the day before if they are presenting the following day.
All the assignments are being added to Google Classroom, even with scanned copies of work or teacher notes. This means access to the work is at their fingertips.
I have reached out to your students about missing assignments. We have a growing pile of work with no names in them. I encourage the students to look there first. I will be working closely with several students during advisory this week. Look on Gradelink. IC means missing and considered incomplete, AB means needs to make up, EX means doesn't need to do and no grade means I haven't graded assignment.
Thank you for continuing to support your student.

- I have informed the students who will be presenting on Monday. Moving forward, I will let the students know the day before who will be presenting the following day.
- If your student was absent last week due to illness/quarantine, they will present "towards" the end of the presentations.
- I posted a message to the class in Google Classroom to reiterate what presentations will look like.
- I could go on and on with how proud I am of your student. Doing a book report is not an easy task on its own. I hope many "Must Read" lists are about to quadruple.
- Congratulations on making it through the 1st trimester of the year with our student(s). Your support and help have been invaluable.
